I felt like making some form of reference here, a witticism of sorts, I first thought of Lorem Ipsum (read: Lorem bloody Ipsum), but thought that was too obvious. I then thought of the first letter that was ever sent, but upon searching for this, I instead found an 88 page document containing the entire history of the US Postal Service. I laughed to myself briefly, and upon very briefly perusing it, just thought I would share that with you instead. I hope that you may even read the second page, as it is a very passionate piece of prose-like writing, and for that, at the very least, it should be appreciated for this. For the intrigued; it turns out the first forms of ‘letters’ sent (If you are to take it from a modern perspective, some would take the letters to the Corinthians written by Paul as the first letters to actually exist, but in my eyes those were actually written as speeches to be presented, rather than actual letters) were actually sent down a series of forts called the Cursus publicus, maintained by Augustus. Here’s the wiki page, I found it interesting to quickly skim read, went back for a more in-depth read when I had a spare moment: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cursus_publicus
I have written a few blogs in my time, some… dark, some nerdy. All, from the heart. This is what I wish to continue in this blog. WordPress is something that is familiar to me, it’s where I started my blogging career. However, I would like those to stay where they are as a relic of time, for me to browse when my mind wanders. This is a new blog, for a new chapter in my life, hopefully the most pleasant, and the most exciting one. (Which, at the very least, is how it is presenting itself so far.)
In writing news, my new(-ish) sci-fi novel has now hit over 27,000 words, reaching ever closer to the 30,000 milestone. I expressed to my father earlier on this evening that I didn’t actually care about the word count, because as long as I was happy with it when it was finished, nothing else mattered. Luckily, he agreed with me, but pointed out I was almost approaching Novella-land, to which I chuckled. Upon reflection, I shouldn’t have, he was correct. Wikipedia defines a Novella as between 7,500 words (how you can express an entire story in that few words stuns me, but I suppose it has and can be done rather consistently, or it would not be defined as such) and 40,000 words. To be at the edge of that barrier is… empowering, almost. I am proud that I can say that I have written that amount. I suspect by the time I have finished, I will have reached full-on novel status, but that is neither here-nor-there until I have finished.
Poetry is sort of on standby until I finish, creative streams only run so far. I do wish to go back to it, but these things are… fleeting, for me, sometimes.
In the mean time, I am being inspired by Game Master/Game Designer/Nerd Adam Koebel with his incredible way with words, through the medium of Court of Swords, one of his Dungeon and Dragons podcasts on itmejp’s Twitch/Youtube channel. They are amusing to listen to as I drive to work and back, and provide a good stimulus to push the brain creatively. If you want to check it out, here’s a link: Court Of Swords
Anyway, it’s late and I am tired. I shall sign off for now, and greet you once more on another day.
